Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered many other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police report early analysis show the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident left him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
